I have the same experience as Liu's. Last year is my first time to America. I feel afraid because the people around me said the different language and everywhere is strange for me. At that time, I want to stay with Chinese because I can ask them whatever I do not know. And stay with them I could feel that they are my family, I can feel free.

Assignment #3

"People express their emotions and attitudes more nonverbally than verbally." This is true; however, people in different places express their emotions by different nonverbal ways. For example, nonverbal ways' express in China is different from that in America: the ways of say hello.
When the people who knows each other meet in street, they will nod. If they are friends, they may give a huge to each. But in America, they may shake hands, if they are best friends, they will kiss on the face with a huge.
This difference is caused by different cultures. China is a country which has a long history. Its culture is combined with old and young Chinese cultures. Therefore, there must be held some old parts, such as, seniority in the family is important in China. However, that is less important in America because it is a young country.
Even though there are many different nonverbal ways between these two countries, they also have many same ways. For example, the gestures. The "OK" gesture in American culture is same as that in China. Another example, when people shrug their shoulders, it may meas they do not know. This body language is also same. So different cultures also have the same parts.

reponse to " Mother Tongue"

Language is the most important factor in our life. We cannot Live without language. However, the same places also have different pronoucation. For example, my mother tongue is Chinese, but my pronoucation is a little differ from who live far from my hometown. And my language differ from that of my parents. Also in formal, I said a little different language with that I said at home.

First, the language between my parents and I. At most time, our language is the same. However, sometimes, the language I used is more popular, and my parents may be not know what it means. For example, when I want to say a person looks like urgly, I will say " cuo" in Chinese, however, my parents just know " chou" which means ugly in Chinese. In China, my peers always use this kind of language, and people call it " International Language". Now it is involved our normal life.

Next, the formal language is a little different with my normal said language. When I am at home, I always say the local language to my parents, so do my parents. However, person who does not come from my hometwon cannot understand my local language. In formal, all chinese people say the same language, which called " Putong Hua" in Chinese. And no matter where you are from, you can understand this language, just because it is your mother tongue.

Language is a magical thing. We can use it to tell others what we think and what we want. And different place has different language. In my mind, the world is varies because the different language caused varies culture.
